Sheraton Hotel in Davao City?

The upcoming 12 storey hotel in the Lanang area of Davao City is being rumored as the newest international hotel chain to hit the shores of Davao. Sheraton Hotel, part of Starwood Hotels and Resorts, is ) is an international brand serving the needs of luxury and upscale business and leisure travelers worldwide. Sheraton can be found in the most sought-after cities and resort destinations around the world, according to their corporate website.

At the time our informant visited the site, he was advised by the contractors on site that the ground works currently on going is for the upcoming Sheraton Hotel in Davao. The rendering is now being displayed – a grand 12 storey hotel with a facade and layout similar to other Sheraton Hotels found in other countries. The site is located a stone throw away from the upcoming SM Lanang in Davao City – a second SM mall in the city, situated within the former Lanang Golf and Country Club.

The site of the “Sheraton Hotel Davao” is also few minutes away from Abreeza – the first and largest Ayala Center of Ayala Land in Mindanao. If indeed the soon to be constructed building is a Sheraton Hotel Davao, the site is really appropriate and strategic for such project. Not that tall at 12 storeys only but it will surely reshape the skyline of the northern part of this city.

Aside from Sheraton Hotel Davao, a number of smaller hotels and inns are also being constructed in the downtown area and southern part of the city lately. Such constructions and developments further strengthen the city’s capability of being Southern Philippines’ convention capital and business hub.

before these big time establishments enter davao, I think the government will have to be aggressive in decreasing the people in poverty and focus on super increasing the middle class people.

I cannot imagine the sustainability of these establishments if the Davaoenos themselves cannot afford such “luxuries”. Although, the target market of this hotel are foreigners, I think they can also target the locals especially during the holidays. As for Abreeza and the various condos, we need the middle class to fuel these business which in turn create jobs which will then increase spending which will fuel business.

Its a cycle and the Davao City government has to understand that. Create white collar jobs now! OFWs and call centers should only be temporary and stepping stones. We need jobs with a career path!
