Construction of the Davao-Samal Island Bridge

The Davao-Samal Island bridge will finally start its construction after the completion of the feasibility study. Faisal Kasim, the Chief Executive Officer of MCC Capital Projects Ltd of UK disclosed it in a press conference held in Davao City on Thursday evening (May 1, 2008). The feasibility study would only take about three months.

The bridge would cost roughly 120 million dollars and the financial institution (MCCCP) would extend the assistance to the Island Garden City of Samal in terms of a no interest loan which is payable in 30 years.

Once the project would be completed, MCCCP would develop commercial communities and opportunities in the island itself. Private Banking in the United States, which is one of MCCCP’s partners in this project, would also venture into two more projects in the island city and those are sewage system and medical care. MCCCP is also planning to put up a hotel and a convention center in the island.

With the upcoming influx of development in the island, the local government of Samal commits to preserve a huge portion of the island. The local government will only offer 20 percent of the island as areas to be developed. 80 percent will remain as it is. The local government had established 15 marine protected areas that are off limits to any type of development.

The planned bridge is hoped to have a 25 meter distance from the water level. It will be from Kilometer 10 Sasa, Davao City to Babak in the Island Garden City of Samal.

hm… a much as Progress for me is Concerned i would way GO for the Construction of the Bridge. But as a Junior Environmentalist and as a Nature Lover, i would say it subtlety… “WHERES THE FUCKIN’ FUN IN TOURING IN AN ISLAND WHERE ALL YOU DO IS TAKE THE BRIDGE TO CROSS”

    jejeje… subtle huh?!

mas Masarap pa rin ang feeling na sasakay sa isang boat patawid sa isla at magpahangin habang nakasakay; well even riding in a ferry boat for me is ok na rin.

Siyempre my pros and cons ‘to. But for me, I want it to push through.

  12. Scarlet says:

  13. Axelander says:

davao is business based and mall based city, when it will link to samal island.. this two cities will definitely boost the economy of mindanao.. business + tourist spots = more foriegners to come = more income between the two cities…

the rising economy of davao will help also boost the economy of samal when the bridge will be build..

  14. Leave Samal Alone says:

Samal Island is one of prime jewels of Davao, to build a bridge would mean alot of traffic, pollution, and just ala carte of concrete structures all over.

Its really removing the scenic and magic of just being an island and island alone.

If they (whomever: local or others) really want to invest, connections underwater, pipeline, cables, and port upgrades are possible.

Remember, Davao has become from all what has it been. It is not Manila, nor Cebu, nor any comparison to other cities.

    Keep it Davao.

  15. Ryan Ocido says:

Let’s not focus on the negative sides, I hope these plans will prosper. Magandang site talaga ang Samal. It’s up to the local government officials of Davao and Davao del Norte (Samal is part of Davao del Norte) kung ano ang agreement for these plans on what specific areas ang idedevelop and what areas should be left as it is. So long as hindi masisira ang kalikasan and walang hazardous factories na itatayo sa island, personally for me, ok lang na may tulay talaga. At least kung ano mang produkto meron ang Samal, mas madali na ‘tong maitatransport going to the mainland and vice versa. See?

Mula nang bata pa ako, naririnig ko na ang mga plans regarding this bridge, pero till now, I’m 24 years old na, wala pa rin. By the way, I have lots of relatives who live in Babak kasi and my Uncles also own lands there. So maganda talaga kung may tulay na, at least if ever may mga emergency like medical cases (kelangan dalhin sa hospital), 24/7 madali na lang ang transportation. Hindi kagaya ngayon na you’ll really have to wait for the ferries to transport us.

  17. Pinoy Balut says:

hahaha, mao gyud. God’s will be done nalang

  18. doods says:

  23. Isamal says:

Hi…people of the world! How can you expect the bridge connecting Samal Island and Davao will be realized if the present leadership is receiving P 80,000 monthly protection money from the ferryboat operator? And the City Councilors and Department Heads are free of ferry fare and other head of government office administering the ferry operation? Oh… this are the mother sucker of the island controlling the bus operation, ferry services, gloceries, etc… And the City Councilors are blinded by free ride of the ferryboat!

  24. Isamal says:

Wanted! Fine and brave lawyer to sue the irresponsible city officials who are receiving money, services, in violation to RA 6713. The people of Samal were unjustly punished by dare ferry charges much higher than Ozamis-XXX in Misamis Occidental. The highest ferry fare in the Philippines is here in Samal Island yet the City Officials are blinded by free ride!

  25. shanonok says:

sana maganda din ang style ng bridge………….. i hope so na matibay din ang bridge if magawa na ito

  26. mao ba says:

    kailan ba ito mag.start

  28. lelz says:
