Kadayawan Festival 2007 – Cultural Celebration Series: The Maranao Tribe

The Maranao is one of the eight tribes in Davao City. Their influences in the city can be observed even to this generation from music to architecture. See their culture being presented today at The Rizal Park.

Kadayawan FestivalĀ 2007

Maranao is the largest of the Muslim cultural-linguistic groups of the Philippines. Numbering more than 840,000 in the late 20th century. They are famous for their artwork, sophisticated weaving, wood and metal craft, and their epic literature. The word Maranao, also spelled Maranaw, means “People of the Lake”.
